Spray drift is an increasingly important issue for the farming community. At its worst the travel of pesticide through the air (spray drift) can cause potential health effects for wildlife, animals and humans as well as environmental effects resulting in potential property damage. Spray drift is created when pesticide solutions are sprayed by ground spray equipment or aircraft and droplets are produced by the nozzles of the equipment. Many of these droplets can be so small that they stay suspended in the air - carried by air currents until they contact a surface or drop to the ground. A number of factors influence drift including weather conditions, topography, the crop or area being sprayed, application equipment and methods, and decisions by the applicator.
An applicator with a spray shield such as the MTS herbicide spray shield can substantially reduce spray drift by capturing and containing the herbicide in the treated area.
The MTS herbicide spray shield is custom designed and built locally by Marlborough Tractor Services - this is a cost effective means of controlling spray-drift. This machine can be adapted to most spray booms and operates by fixing to the herbicide sprayer dropper arms.
- Can be used for the Shark debudding chemical and undervine weedspray
