Steve Locke, owner of Vineyard and Fencing Ltd in Marlborough, is a professional fencer who uses Fencepro’s Ultra G2 post driver. Steve purchased his post driver from Fencepro’s exclusive top of the south agent, Marlborough Tractor Services who are based in Renwick. Steve switched to Fencepro after talking to a number of North Island fencers who were happily using the product. “Fencepro has a proven design and I was looking for something that was solid as well as easy to use, simple maintain and fix if I needed to.” he says.

The Ultra G2 had a number of features that appealed to Steve such as the fold down mast and side mount spike. “The fold down mast is simple to extend, easy to transport and easy to store. I can park the post driver in the shed or put in the back of the truck with tractor.” Fencepro models come with a number of options.

Steve opted for the larger mast of 4.5m. “I have noticed that most people now are using 2.7m strainers” says Steve “and the larger mast gives me more clearance, making it easier to drive the post into the ground which gives me more productivity.” With its side mounted spike the Ultra G2 provides operational safety allowing the post driver operator to avoid walking or reaching under the monkey to bring the spike around. The spike can be easily removed if not needed.

Steve’s previous post driver was bulky but Steve believes that Fencepro’s more streamlined frame is a positive feature. “It means that there is less pressure on the 3-point linkage over time”. The custom design monkey of 1000lbs (450Kg) means more productivity allowing the post driver to work more quickly and drive more posts in one day. “I am really happy with it” says Steve. “And the post tap is one piece of steel with fewer welds which means less stress.”

Steve has found the Fencepro to be easy to maintain which is an added bonus; “Most post drivers have grease nipples everywhere. They take time to grease and you have to do it all the time.
