Siegwald Undervine mower and mulcher – zero need for herbicides

Designed specifically for vineyard work, the Siegwald is an organic solution to mowing and mulching – performing four jobs in one pass of each vineyard row.

The Siegwald makes a close cut to the vine trunk and mulches the organic matter between rows, leaving it to feed back into the soil.  Buffers are also used to slow the regrowth of weeds around vine trunks.   Due to this combined approach there is a zero need for herbicides, and with the Siegwald’s efficient one pass approach there is reduced soil impaction over time. 

With a starting size of 1.1m the Siegwald is able to work in rows from as narrow as 1.2m.  The Siegwald also performs well without causing damage to younger plants.

The entirely mechanical driven machine uses swing discs and vine buffers which work to cut the grass and then sweep debris away from the vine trunks.  In effect the Siegwald is performing four jobs in one machine. 

1. Swing discs with rotary blades cut between the vines using tension springs which allow the discs to lightly swing in and immediately out again on contact with the vine trunk.

2. Rotating rubber buffers sweep the area directly under the vine trunk; performing a job similar to bud rubbing, acting to remove debris as well as working to slow regrowth around the vine trunk.

3. Rip spikes integrated into the buffers loosen the soil around the vine trunk

4. A rotary mulch system mulches organic matter between the rows.

Hydraulic demand often requires expensive upkeep for both implements and tractors, and high costs when break downs occur.  But because the Siegwald is cable driven it has a very low hydraulic demand.  Subsequently, over time maintenance costs are kept low. 

Low hydraulic demand also means that the Siegwald can be attached to the smallest of tractors, often those used to work between rows due to their compact size, turning ratio and maneuverability.  Creating a mower that can be attached to these small machines further reduces the impact on the environment, and makes the Siegwald easy to use. 

The result is an effective, efficient and herbicide free means of undervine mowing, weeding and mulching.
